Every year at Christmas time the big high street chain coffee shops, and some independents, release Christmas cups and Christmas drinks. So this year I decided to try some of the drinks out and share with you all my views of the main three venues, Starbucks, Caffe Nero and Costa – because that is exactly what you want to read, right?
I have to be honest with you guys. I really, really, dislike Costa’s coffee. I really don’t know what it is about it but I just think it tastes foul and leaves a really bad taste in my mouth. I have tried on plenty of occasions but I just cannot stomach the drink at all. However, if I could these are the flavours that I ould have loved to have tried:
Salted Caramel Cappuccino
As it is, I only got a chance to try their hot chocolate but guys… it was pretty damn delicious.
I tried the Toasted Marshmallow Hot Chocolate and it was very yummy. I loved the glittery marshmallows on top too. However, I also think that it didn’t taste that different to their normal hot chocolate which was a little bit of a let down.
Now, I have to admit, I actually think Caffe Nero may have won me over with their Christmas drinks this year. Like… they may even be better than Starbucks and that really never happens. At Nero they have a choice of about five different flavours and admittedly I have only tried two of those flavours but boy were they tasty!
First up I tried the Praline flavour in a hot chocolate and it was so incredibly tasty. It literally blew my taste buds away but then again, Caffe Nero really know what they’re doing when it comes to hot chocolate!
Secondly I tried a salted caramel latte and it too was very, very tasty. I think it had the perfect balance of sweet and salty which we have all grown to love.
However, I still have to admit that my favourite Caffe Nero drink is probably their White Chocolate Mocha. They really know what they’re doing with that drink!
I’m not going to lie, Starbucks has always been one of my favourite coffee shops. (I mean, aside from Tim Horton’s but we don’t have that chain here, sadly!) And I am always very excited when they finally get in their Christmas drinks because I have an ultimate favourite:
Toffee Nut Latte
I cannot even explain what it is about this drink that I love but I love the flavour and the cream and the nut bits sprinkled on top too. It’s all just lovely and tasty and really tastes like Christmas in a mug to me.
But what I found hard with Starbucks this year is that they didn’t really release anything new this year. Last year they brought out the mulled apple drink but this year they just had their classics – not that there’s anything wrong with their classics! – and it just felt a little boring to me.
By taste alone and only going by what I have drunk – obviously – here is my order of Christmas drinks!
1. Toffee Nut Latte from Starbucks
2. Praline Hot Chocolate from Caffe Nero
3. Toasted Marshmallow Hot Chocolate from Costa
