New Adult Read-a-Thon Mini-Challenge; Rewrite the Synopsis

Posted on 28 July, 2013 by Faye - 5 Comments

Hey Guys!
So today I am hosting the Rewrite the Synopsis challenge!
All you have to do is take a New Adult book that you have read (either for the read-a-thon or before it) and re-write the synopsis.
You can either comment it below or make your own post about it, but you’ll get a chance to win a prize if you do!

The Secret of Ella & Micha; Original Synopsis;
The girl he thinks he loves needs to disappear. I don’t want tonight to be irreversible, so I pull away, breathing him in one last time.

Ella and Micha have been best friends since childhood, until one tragic night shatters their relationship and Ella decides to leave everything behind to start a new life at college, including Micha.

But now it’s summer break and she has nowhere else to go but home. Ella fears everything she worked so hard to bury might resurface, especially with Micha living right next door. Micha is sexy, smart, confident, and can get under Ella’s skin like no one else can. He knows everything about her, including her darkest secrets. And he’s determined to win back the girl he lost, no matter what it takes.

My Synopsis;
Hidden underneath the surface is a love so strong, it is only a matter of time before it breaks free. How long will it take for Ella to bury her feelings for him when he continues to try and pry her open? She’s ready to simply bury herself and never come out of her shell. What will happen if he finally brings everything to the surface? Will it be as brilliant as he always imagined or will he break her in ways he never expected? There’s only one way to find out…

Naturally the new synopsis doesn’t have to be amazing. Have fun with it. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

The Prize
One winner will either win a signed copy of Beautiful Disaster (UK Only) or a Book of Choice (up to £10) from TBD. (INT)

All you need to do is enter the rafflecopter below!

- You MUST be a Read-a-thon participant – and be fully signed up!
- Winners will be e-mailed and will have 72 hours to respond.
- Please read my Giveaway Policy
- Good Luck!

Book Blogger Love-A-Thon; Mini-Challenge #4!

Posted on 23 February, 2013 by Faye - 15 Comments

Don’t worry, I haven’t suddenly lost my mind by skipping from #2 to #4. Instead, I decided not to participate in the third mini-challenge because playlists are just NOT my thing at all. For this challenge, I am writing a letter to my old blogger self. I’m not really sure how this is going to go but it’d be interesting to see where it goes.

Dear Past Faye

I see you sitting there, on your bed, with your mind full of ideas and inspiration, with your keys fumbling over the keyboard as you write your very first review to post on your blog. You’re thinking it out, working hard on it to make it unique and different, entertaining and fun, but I just want to tell you to stress a little less because that first review will be the one you’ll hate the most. As much as it seems like an amazing review today – and hey, it probably is still a great review, don’t take me the wrong way! – but it will not be anywhere near as good as your reviews once you get your own unique style flowing. These first reviews you write will be your pencil lines before the pen and paint arrives. It’s important, incredibly so, but soon it will no longer be seen.

While you may think that you’ll only be having this blog for a side hobby, something to do to help you get a better portfolio for work, and to share your love of writing, books, and films, I just want to warn you now that it will quickly become something so much more than that. You’ll find that your blog will always be on your mind but you also won’t mind because it will mean so much to you. It’ll be that small salvation to your jumbled up life that you never even knew you needed until it was just there. Suddenly, it’ll be the thought of NOT having a blog anymore that will cause your heart to ache and your breathing to become heavy, and you’ll know that you will be blogging for many years to come.

But don’t think it’s always going to be a walk in the park. It’s going to get hard along the way. There will be battles you’ll have to overcome, real life that will get in the way, and stress that you just can’t stop but feeling will occur but I just have to let you know that it will all be worth it. It may seem like it’s time to chuck in the towel some times but I promise that if you hold it altogether and just push through it, the rewards on the other side will be absolutely amazing and you really will soon be looking back in happiness because you did it. You stuck with it and you’re so much better off because of that.

Also, you may think that as soon as you hit “publish”, you will be entering a world of worry and lonliness, and you won’t have a clue where to reach out to get people to follow you or how to really communicate with other bloggers but with the help of some amazing friends – they will be friends soon – the journey will be made ten times better. You’ll learn all about Goodreads – a site you’ll wish you knew about growing up – you’ll get better at HTML, you’ll make a lot of graphics – and you’ll soon learn about the amazing Windows Live Writer as well.

What I’m really trying to say is that when you do finally get that first post out there and start marketing your blog, it’ll be the best decision you ever make and you will never forget it.
Trust Me.

Mini-Bloggiesta, Mini-Challenge; Marketing Your Blog

Posted on 1 February, 2013 by Faye - 31 Comments

Wahoo! The Mini-Bloggiesta is upon us! *waves to all*. Just as a little background to you all, I participated in the Spring Bloggiesta last year and it helped me immensely, I had just been starting out and I just got so many great tips and so I am so happy to be here now able to share my own tips with you all. Being able to help other bloggers is always something that I love to do.

If there is one thing that every blogger wants (and probably needs) is a little publicity to help get their blogs out there, to attract new followers but also just to get their posts seen so all the work that went into them doesn’t feel like a waste of time. But when we’re only blogging in our spare time and it already takes up too much of our time, when do we really have the time to market our blog and blog posts in that way?

Most commonly, we bloggers may have our posts set up through (or some other similiar website) which will automatically share our blog posts on facebook and twitter once the post goes live. While this is extremely helpful for busy bloggers, it also begs the question – is one tweet or one comment on your facebook page really enough to attract audiences?

When I first discovered HootSuite, I was incredibly grateful. It is a powerful marketing tool that helped me during a time I was really trying to market a vlog I had made. Since then, I use HootSuite an awful lot. Essentially, I know I should use it more often but just as I’m a busy blogger, I’m also a forgetful one but I’m really trying to drill it into my head to use it more as I know that it will help to get my posts seen.

But what is HootSuite?
HootSuite is a social-media management website which you can link up to your twitter, facebook, tumblr, google+, and more. It then allows you to schedule tweets and status updates incredibly easily. And you can even click to schedule them at a time when most of your followers – or just twitter users in general – are online. Then, you can simply walk away and let the website do the rest. Haven’t you always wanted to tweet your blog posts while you’re sleeping?

Is continuous tweeting enough?
Probably not. As much as it should be, a lot of people and bloggers who use twitter follow a large proportion of people and unless your tweet (or facebook status) is catchy and interesting, it’ll simply be scrolled past without much thought. So when you’re scheduling your tweets, make sure to make them interesting, use CAPITAL letters to draw people in, CAPTIVATING words to peak interest, and if you have space, you could always ask for RTs!

So, how do I do it?

  • Well, first things first, you’re going to need to sign up. The process doesn’t take long at all.
  • Next you’ll need to add all of your accounts you wish to use. Once again, this won’t take long but you will need to give HootSuite the permissions it needs to work.
  • Now you have all of your accounts set up, you can simply schedule your tweets and updates! For more info on how to do this, check out the previews below.
  • Schedule as many tweets as you like but remember you’re trying to get maximum publicity without spamming everyone’s twitter feeds!

Now, onto the mini-challenge!
I challenge you to sign up for a HootSuite account and to schedule some tweets and status updates for a blog post or even just your blog!
Once you’ve scheduled a few, you can either send me a print-screen of the scheduled tweets ready to go (you can view this by clicking on the paper-areoplane type icon under the home icon in HootSuite), or you can send me a link to one of your scheduled tweets!

Then, all you need to do is remember to use it! (And hopefully you’ll be better than me!). I like HootSuite because scheduling posts for it only takes a few extra minutes after you’ve posted :D

Do you like HootSuite? Do you have other ways of scheduling tweets and updates? Do you have any tips and tidbits to share about marketing blogs and blogposts as a busy blogger? Share in the comments we’d love to hear all!

Rewrite the Synopsis – Bout of Books 6.0 Mini Challenge

Posted on 11 January, 2013 by Faye - 9 Comments

Bout of Books Read-a-Thon

Woo! It’s time for the Bout of Books mini challenge here at A Daydreamer’s Thoughts! This is an idea that came to me back in Decemeber when I hosted my own read-a-thon. I let one of my mini-challenge hosts run the idea and it seemed to run really smoothly and as I personally loved it, I thought it would probably be perfect for the Bout of Books read-a-thon!

The Challenge
Your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to take any of the books that you have read for this read-a-thon (or plan to read over the last three days), and re-write the synopsis just from the books cover. The aim is to make it sounding completely different from the original synopsis!

The Example
The Tragedy Paper Every Year, Peter finds himself in the middle of the Winbreaker Woods with no recollection of how he got there. He always awakens wearing ripped, battered, and odd clothing, and has cuts and bruises he didn’t have previously. This year he isn’t willing to simply run away from the woods and pretend that nothing has happened. With the help of his best friend Kyla, he starts to search out the truth. But will the answers he finds make everything better, or will they open up a whole new world of hurt? Only the Winbreaker Woods can tell.

The Giveaway
I am giving away a $15US/£10 book of choice from The Book Depository to one lucky challenger!

To win this prize, all you need to do is add your challenge to the inlinkz list below and then enter the rafflecopter!
The only mandatory option is that you are a Bout of Books participant AND did the challenge.

  • Open to Bout of Books Participants ONLY
  • Winners will be e-mailed
  • Closes at midnight CST on 11th Jan (ONE DAY ONLY)
  • Please read my Giveaway Policy
