Summary:
There’s no such thing as safe in a city at war, a city overrun with monsters. In this dark urban fantasy from author Victoria Schwab, a young woman and a young man must choose whether to become heroes or villains—and friends or enemies—with the future of their home at stake. The first of two books.

Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city—a city where the violence has begun to breed actual monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the humans pay for his protection. All August wants is to be human, as good-hearted as his own father, to play a bigger role in protecting the innocent—but he’s one of the monsters. One who can steal a soul with a simple strain of music. When the chance arises to keep an eye on Kate, who’s just been kicked out of her sixth boarding school and returned home, August jumps at it. But Kate discovers August’s secret, and after a failed assassination attempt the pair must flee for their lives.

Are We All

Being a large fan of V. E. Schwab, there was absolutely no way I was going to miss the chance to read This Savage Song. And when I finally had it in my hands, I wasn’t going to waste any time! Which in a way, I’m glad I didn’t but also cursing myself that I didn’t wait a little while because I am now desperate to get my hands on the second book in this duology! Once again, V. E. Schwab has written a spectacular story that is sure to blow you away. I got pulled straight in to the story and was able to just imagine everything so vividly. I loved all the characters and the whole idea of the world was simply stunning. This is definitely not a book to be missed.

Destined For

This is the kind of book that makes me wish I could live in the authors head. I wish I could know where her imagination takes her but I’m also incredibly glad that she’s able to put her imagination into words and create a story that flows so well. I loved the entire world that this book is set in. From the way it turned out the way it is now, to the way the Monsters were created and how the different species worked, I just thought it was all incredible. Add to that a twisting and turning plot that leaves you feeling unsure who to trust, and you might just see why I enjoyed this book so much. I am in so much awe of V. E. Schwab.

A Life We

Alongside a wonderful world, V. E. has also created brilliant and vivid characters that I truly enjoyed reading about. First up is Kate. Kate was such a fantastic character to read about with an indepth and fascinating history too. She was closed off and hard but also had a really vulnerable and sensitive side as well. She was snappy and abusive but also kind and caring. I loved how she was a hard one to get to know until you got under her skin. And then there was August. He was an incredible character whom was very interesting to read about. Conflicted in so many ways, strong, protective, trapped, and caring. He was such a unique character to read about.

Cannot Control?

So, all in all, This Savage Song is an absolutely amazing book that I read quickly and impatiently as I loved being in the world and was fascinated by the characters and I simply had to know what was going to happen next. I needed to know where the book was eventually going to take me as well. It was a vibrant, powerful and energetic read that kept me entertained and hooked from the first page until the very last. And that last page! Boy, that is one way to end a book. I am so excited for the next book in this duology now. It is quite clear that it is going to be an absolute page-turner just like this one! So, if you’re looking for a book that will take your breath away in the best possible way, pick up this stunning book!
