My Thoughts on… Bring Me Back by B.A. Paris

About the book

A young British couple are driving through France on holiday when they stop for gas. He runs in to pay, she stays in the car. When he returns her car door has been left open, but she’s not inside. No one ever sees her again.

Ten years later he’s engaged to be married; he’s happy, and his past is only a tiny part his life now. Until he comes home from work and finds his new wife-to-be is sitting on their sofa. She’s turning something over in her fingers, holding it up to the light. Something that would have no worth to anyone else, something only he and she would know about because his wife is the sister of his missing first love.

As more and more questions are raised, their marriage becomes strained. Has his first love somehow come back to him after all this time? Or is the person who took her playing games with his mind?

My Thoughts

Having absolutely loved both of B.A. Paris‘ first two novels, I had very high expectations for this third novel. I was, quite simply, incredibly excited and could not wait to dive in. Thus I was very pleased when the wait was actually worth it. I read the book rapidly as it was simply too addictive and intense to put down. I simply had to know what was going on and where everything would eventually lead. It is with great pleasure that I let you all know that B. A. Paris does not disappoint with this gripping, enthralling and ultimately heart-breaking thriller.

It can be so difficult to shock audiences with thrillers these days as we’ve all heard the stories before. Something similar has already happened or if we’re avid thriller readers, we’re waiting for the twist. So I am not going to tell you that the twist in this book was hard to guess. I did, eventually, work out what was happening before the main protagonist does but it is still a very clever and very intriguing twist which I even had a little discussion about with a friend over the plausibility of it. What I will say is that the twist may have been guessable but it doesn’t end the book and that was intensely exciting for me. How it ends took my breath away.

One of the reasons I absolutely love B.A. Paris’ books is that she always manages to create interesting characters for her stories and that is no different with this book. I wasn’t entirely sure that I liked the protagonist of the book but he was definitely compelling. Not to mention, I was just so intrigued about what was happening that it probably would not have mattered if I hated him! She uses the characters in this book in such a unique way that really manages to throw the reader off. I kept guessing what might be happening and then something else would occur that would throw that guess out the water and I really loved that.

In case you’re not sure, I think I should clarify that I very much enjoyed this read. I think I am definitely a B. A. Paris lover and cannot wait to read whatever she writes next. I continuously recommend her previous novels and I will continue to do so with this one too. It is intense, shocking, addictive and heart-breaking. It is a book that will leave you thinking and keep you guessing as well. It is everything I look for in a thriller novel and more. So if you want an entertaining novel that will keep you on your toes, give Bring Me Back a read!
