Blog Tour: I Was Born For This by Alice Oseman

I Was Born For This by Alice Oseman

Hello All!
Today is my stop on the I Was Born For This musical blog tour! This is working a little differently then usual. To support the fangirl aspect of the book, this tour will be sharing different songs from Alice’s playlist for the book on each different blog and then all the bloggers are also sharing one song themselves as well so we can create a massive YA playlist! Pretty cool, right?

So, without further ado… here is…

Alice’s Song

One of Us by Joan Osbourne

This song is quite different to everything else on my playlist, but it really resonates with one theme I explored in I Was Born for This – the way celebrities can be treated like gods by their fans. This song imagines what it would be like “if God was one of us”, “just a stranger on the bus trying to make his way home”. My book really gets to the heart of that with the boyband boys – while they’re seen as gods, they’re all shown to have very human, real flaws and issues.

My Song

Fight Song by Rachel Platten

So this is officially my song of the year. What I mean by that is it is the song I started listening to in January and decided that it was going to be my motto for the year. And I think it is perfect for those YA heroes and heroines. How I hear it is a girl who is on the breaking point but instead of breaking down, she is going to stand up and fight back and show the world that she is good enough – and I think there are plenty of YA stories that have a similar theme!

About the Book

For Angel Rahimi, life is only about one thing: The Ark – a pop-rock trio of teenage boys who are currently taking the world by storm. Being part of The Ark’s fandom has given her everything – her friendships, her dreams, her place in the world.

Jimmy Kaga-Ricci owes everything to The Ark too. He’s their frontman – and playing in a band is all he’s ever dreamed of doing. It’s just a shame that recently everything in his life seems to have turned into a bit of a nightmare.

Because that’s the problem with dreaming – eventually, inevitably, real life arrives with a wake-up call. And when Angel and Jimmy are unexpectedly thrust together, they will discover just how strange and surprising facing up to reality can be.
