My Thoughts on... Yes No Maybe So
by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed

Hi All!

Today I am here with a review of Yes No Maybe So which was a very intense book.

**A copy of this book was provided to me for free in exchange for an honest review**

Title: Yes No Maybe So
Author: Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed

Summary: Jamie Goldberg is cool with volunteering for his local state candidate – as long as he’s behind the scenes. There’s no way he’d ever knock on doors to ask people for their votes…until he meets Maya.

Maya Rehman’s having the worst Ramadan ever. Her best friend is too busy to hang out, her summer trip is cancelled, her parents are separating and now her mother thinks the solution to her problems is political canvassing – with some awkward guy she hardly knows …

Going door to door isn’t exactly glamorous, but maybe it’s not the worst thing in the world. After all, the polls are getting closer – and so are Maya and Jamie. Mastering local activism is one thing. Navigating the cross-cultural crush of the century is another thing entirely.

My Thoughts

Having read and previously loved books by Becky Albertalli, I knew that I wanted to read Yes No Maybe So. I went into the book with very little further knowledge on the book and I’m really glad for it as it left the book as a really lovely surprise. Fortunately despite knowing very little about the book, I quickly found myself immersed in the novel and ultimately absolutely loved it. It is a compelling, cute and deeply emotional book that I devoured completely.

The story follows Jamie and Maya as they not only learn a little bit more about each other but also how they learn more about the world and the parts that they play within it. It is a story for the teenagers who are unhappy with the political climate but are too young to vote to change it. This book helps show what can be done to fight for the world you want to live in. But on top of all of that, this book is simply a human story full of human emotions.

Honestly, I don’t want to say too much to make it seem like it has a political agenda, because in all honesty, it really doesn’t. This book is about two people who start spending more time together. It’s about finding people who see you and understand you but who will also fight for and with you. It’s about finding your people, whoever they may be.

I just truly enjoyed this novel and think that others will enjoy it as well. It is a book that will make you more empathetic to people who are different to you and make you realise that while we may have differences, we’re all human and we all deserve dignity. On top of this, despite there being a romantic story in it, this book is still very much a friendship book at the heard and I always love a good friendship book. So, if you haven’t already – go give this book a read!
