Blogger Spotlight; Interview!
Hey Guys!
So today I have the wonderful Raimy from Readaraptor here for an interview!
Hopefully this lets you see how lovely and amazing she is and makes you go check out her brilliant blog!
Enjoy
Tell us a little something about yourself!
Hi, I’m Raimy. I am a journalist, working for a construction magazine based in North West England. When I’m not working I am either reading or watching tv/playing computer games with my boyfriend or seeing friends.
How long have you had your blog?
I have had my blog for over two years now, time flies when you’re having fun eh?! I started blogging in September of 2010 and didn’t like the platform I was using so I started Readaraptor in January 2011.
Do you enjoy running your blog?
I love it! I enjoy getting my thoughts and feelings about books out there and sharif exciting news with my followers.
When you started, did you ever think that it would end up the way it has?
I honestly didn’t I expected to get no followers and for no one to like my blog. I expected people to ignore me on twitter and thought, if I’m honest, that I would give up within six months of starting it. I didn’t have a lot of confidence but blogging has helped with that a lot and now I am happy!
Is there an interesting background story to the name of your blog, if there is, tell us!
I am obsessed with dinosaurs and the fun things you can do with words to make them into dinosaurs. I experimented a lot with different dinosaurs trying to make them bookish and I liked Readaraptor the best.
As we’ve got this far without mentioning it, why not tell us a little something about your blog, what you post, how it runs, who you cater to, etc.
I cater to anyone and everyone. Honestly I just love talking about the books I read and trying to spread the word about how I feel. I wish I did more discussion posts to be honest but at the minute I am a little short on time so its just reviews and a few memes.
Do you participate or host and blog memes? If you do, which is your favourite?
I do! I have my own kinda news post which I try to do every week on a Saturday. I also take part in Letterbox Love on a sunday to give a shout out to the books I have received that week and help spread the word for the publishers and most Thursdays I try to take part in From the Review Pile, hosted by Stepping out of the Page.
I host a monthly meme called No Books Allowed which runs on the last Thursday of the month and allows book bloggers to talk about the non-bookish things that are going on in their world that month. There’s only me and a couple of other people doing it at the minute but I love reading their posts and I would love to see more people participating!
What about blog tours and blog hops? Have you ever or do you ever want to participate in them?
I do, I like giving authors the change to discuss the inner workings of their mind or tell us more about their books. I try to participate in them as much as possible because its a good to have a bit of background into the books that feature on the blog.
What is the best book you read in 2012?
oooo that’s hard… I honestly don’t know. The Diviners by Libba Bray was incredible, as was Heart Shaped Bruise by Tanya Byrne and The Terrible Thing that Happened to Barnaby Brockett by John Boyne. Not to mention Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson and Emma Hearts LA by Keris Stainton… The list is endless really I think I might be able to list my top twenty if you want that? haha
What about so far in 2013?
Another hard one, why are you doing this to me! haha This year so far it has to be either If You Find Me by Emily Murdoch, Scarlet by Marissa Meyer or Wild Boy by Rob Lloyd Jones. They were all incredible for their own reasons and are all different genres so please don’t make me choose one!
Has there ever been a book that you haven’t been able to finish? If so, what was it? And why couldn’t you finish?
Unfortunately there’s been a few… I couldn’t get into Seraphina by Rachel Hartman and gave up after 100 pages, it just wasn’t for me and I think it was to do with the language. I also gave up on Shadows by Paula Weston, but I have a problem with Angels to be honesty and gave it a good go, I was 250 pages into that when I realised I was really not enjoying it. Unfortunately there’s a second in a series which I was really looking forward to recently which I started and couldn’t get into as well but I’m hoping that was because of my mood at the time and I’ll be able to get back into it as I loved the first!
What is your favourite book genre?
It was dystopian… then dystopian blew up and everyone was writing it. I think my love for the genre will come back eventually though. At the minute I am having a love affairs with 9-12 fantasy and I will always have a specially space in my heart for YA contemporary
