Blogger Spotlight; INTERVIEW!
Hey Guys!
So today I have an interview with the amazing Gaby from Queen Ella Bee Reads.
Hopefully this will give you a good idea as to how awesome she is.
Hope you enjoy!
Tell us a little something about yourself!
Oh dear, these are hard for me because I’m a rambler and talk a lot – not a little. But I’ll give it a go. My name is Gaby (not Ella Bee – although I think I’d respond to it by this point). I’m a 23 year old girl from New York City who loves books, baking, napping, diners and getting excited over just about everything.
How long have you had your blog?
I created my blog on November 29th, 2012, but the first post didn’t go up until November 30th, 2012. So my baby’s about 7 months old now? *pets my baby blog*
Do you enjoy running your blog?
I think there are times when I want to punch blogger in the proverbial face, but mostly YESYESYES A MILLION TIMES YES.
When you started, did you ever think that it would end up the way it has?
NOPE. When I kicked off I was so self-conscious about everything from my blog name to my design to my review style to just about everything else (I still am, but the panic attacks are less frequent now). I didn’t think ANYONE would like/notice me because there are a million book bloggers out there and WHO CARES about another one with a super non-sensical blog name. But, like, I have Twitter followers and blog followers and blogging friends and support from my IRL friends who SURPRISE secretly loved YA all this time and we just never knew we had that in common. And I post A LOT. So who knew I could be so incredibly dedicated to something for so long like this?
So yeah, definitely a big fat NOPE.
Is there an interesting background story to the name of your blog, if there is, tell us!
WHY YES. THERE IS. So when I started my blog I was like: HOW CAN I MAKE MYSELF STAND OUT? This is when I decided to get as silly as possible. This made me think of a friend of mine who’s SUPER silly and rearranged all of the letters in my name once and came up with Ella Bee (she clearly got lazy and didn’t use ALL of the letters in my full name, but whatever). So I stuck a Queen at the front (because I can’t help myself) and added a Reads at the end and here I am!
As we’ve got this far without mentioning it, why not tell us a little something about your blog, what you post, how it runs, who you cater to, etc.
Oh jeeze. What do I post? Well, I do a couple of memes – Top Ten Tuesday weekly, Waiting on Wednesday every other week and Stacking the Shelves whenever I feel like I have books to show off. Then on the Wednesdays I’m not going Waiting on Wednesday, I run my original feature, WORLD OF BOOKS (http://ellabeereads.blogspot.com/p/world-of-books.html). On Fridays I do my discussion post and Monday and Thursdays are for reviewing. For now, Sundays are for my Veronica Mars Watch-Along, but that’ll end soon, so we’ll see what happens to it. I think most importantly, if I don’t have anything worth saying for a Stacking the Shelves, I’ll skip Saturday all together and take the day off (and back to the Watch-Along thing, I might make it a WEEKEND off instead of just Saturday once it’s over). Yeah. So that’s my very detailed schedule, in case you couldn’t pick up on the pattern (which is okay because, like, having a schedule doesn’t always mean sticking to it?).
Um. I think that whole paragraph answered more than I thought it was going to. But, ultimately, I guess I cater to people who like YA, lists, discussions about everything and Veronica Mars. Which, when I put it out like that, describes ME pretty well.
Do you participate or host and blog memes? If you do, which is your favourite?
Yeah. I just went through all of this. But SIGN UP FOR WORLD OF BOOKS. I WANT YOU ON MY BLOG. I DO. And my discussions are my favesies, so make sure to check those out!
What about blog tours and blog hops? Have you ever or do you ever want to participate in them?
I have never done a tour, hop, blitz… none of it. I don’t know if I’ll ever start participating in them. I feel like I have a lot going on as it is and I don’t totally get the whole tour/hop system so I think I’m going to wait until I have more time to work out all that stuff before I have a definitive answer.
What is the best book you read in 2012?
The If I Stay/Where She Went Gayle Forman duo of awesome. Or Seraphina. AND The Fault in Our Stars.
What about so far in 2013?
For Darkness Shows the Stars. No. Scarlet. No. OH. GRACELING. But then also Ferryman and Through the Ever Night. Yeah. I have lots of favorite things.
Has there ever been a book that you haven’t been able to finish? If so, what was it? And why couldn’t you finish?
I actually have a really hard time DNFing (I’m actually posting a disc post on this on Friday so feel free to link it ^_^). I know some people will stop after 80 pages or whatever if they’re not already into it, but I personally don’t feel like that’s enough because a lot of books start slow (and I happen to like A LOT of books that start slow). So I’ll keep going until page 150-200, still be unhappy, but finish it anyway because it’s only another 150-200 pages. Which I know sounds like a lot, but if I’m already half done I might as well know how the ending goes?
Basically I’m a neurotic control freak. Better you know that about me now.
What is your favourite book genre?
Either contemporary or fantasy. I also really like sci-fi and steampunk. And I REALLY like crossovers. A lot. But it’s not always done right so it’s kind of iffy for me. OH! And I love retellings (fairytale, mythology…)
So that’s not one genre, but, well, whatever. I’m always hard pressed to come up with a favorite ANYTHING.
