Book Review; The Iron Traitor by Julie Kagawa

As We Start

To start this review, I feel it is vital to let you know, in case you don’t already, that I love Julie Kagawa and find that she only ever gets better as the books continue on. That being said, I was therefore incredibly excited to get my hands on The Iron Traitor and it wasn’t long before I was pouring over the words inside the book. Fortunately, I am glad to report that she has once again managed to write an incredible book full of adventure, action, romance, mystery and emotions that you really shouldn’t miss.

A New Journey

This is the second book in the Iron Fey spin off series and so it was a book that I also started reading with a little trepidation as second books can often be incredibly tricky. However, as this is Julie’s third second book, it appears that she has truly managed to hone in her craft as it worked really well. As per her usual style, this book is teeming with action around every corner but hidden underneath it all is an incredibly sub-plot that will most likely blow you up – and very possibly churn up your insides as it does. I really enjoyed the plot of this book, it flowed nicely, pulled the reader in, and didn’t let them go, even when the book finally had its last word.

We Must Remember

As this is the second book, there weren’t many new characters for Julie to introduce us too but there was a lot of character development. I really enjoyed this aspect of the story as it helped to grow my personal attachment to the characters I was reading about – namely Ethan. I found that once again, I loved the relationship dynamics between Kenzie and Ethan but also Ethan and Kieran. It is clear to see that Julie has used her talent to allow these characters to feel completely realistic and throughout the book I could imagine that these characters could be live people I walk past every single day. This is a talent that Julie continues throughout all of her novels.

To Keep Our

The ending of this novel truly shocked me to the core. I was left literally gasping and shaking my head. It was a cruel way to end this book but also incredibly perfect. Julie has left the world unbalanced and has managed to incite my anxiousness over the next book. It no longer matters about the blurb of the next book, I simply have to have the next book in my hands to continue on with the journey. In some ways this could be seen as cruel and heartless as the wait for the next book is incredibly long, however, I feel that it is also perfect as it means that I will hungrily devour the next book as soon as it is in my hands which means I will be waiting very eagerly for the next one!

Wits About Us

Overall, The Iron Traitor has all the traits I have come to know and love about Julie Kagawa. A wonderfully intricate and complex plot that continually keeps you enticed, action that draws you in, and brilliantly written characters that you can’t help but fall in love with. While I fear some may have issues with the ending, or simply the anticipation until the next book, I also found this to just be perfect and am incredibly glad that I got around to reading this book. I would not advice reading this book before The Lost Prince. So, if you haven’t even started the Iron Fey series, what are you waiting for?
