Blogspiration #8
This week I am sharing with you a quote I found on Tumblr today that just really spoke to me and I felt it was important to share it with all of you lovely people. I hope that it inspires you as much as it inspired me!
Books say: She did this because. Life says: She did this. Books are where things are explained to you; life is where things aren’t. I’m not surprised some people prefer books.
– Julian Barnes, Flaubert’s Parrot
Books are amazing. They are powerful. They are brilliant. And beyond everything else, like I examined last week, they always teach us things. They show us the world in a way we may not have imagined before. They open our eyes to things we may have neglected to notice before. They are just things but they are the things that keep people together. And I am with Julian on this one, I am not surprised that some people prefer books. In fact, I find it a little disheartening that not enough people love books. Too many people look at me a little oddly when I mention I read for fun, and that just… saddens me. How can they not see how just utterly fantastic reading is? So yes, this quote, I just absolutely loved it <3

Faye amazing blogspiration!! I completely agree with you! Too many people don’t read books, and it saddes me too. ;/ I read because I enjoy it. And lots of times I find myself in a book and it helps me understand so much about myself.
Amazing post. I love it!! :) ;)

Thanks Nea, I’m glad that you feel the same way as well! Sometimes reading just makes everything right in the world again :)

Wonderful post. I agree with you, and I find the more I understand life, the more I appreciate books, and vice versa.
New follower! Consider taking a peak at my blog?

OMG, it’s sad because it’s true. Is that bad that I prefer books over real life? Probably, but it’s worth it!!
Daydreaming_Star
Haaah. NO! Books are sooo much better than real life. Screw real life, I’d rather live in a book-world xD
hehe.
Thanks for commenting Jen :D

And books help us make sense of life. Makes me think of this quote (attributed to C.S. Lewis) that goes “We read to know that we’re not alone.”
You’re so right, books are incredibly powerful. And I can’t imagine who I’d be without them!
Wow, this is such a good quote to get one thinking.
Daydreaming_Star
OOoh! I love that quote sooo much <3 and I totally agree too! People often feel like they’re the only ones going through a certain situation and then they pick up a book and realise they’re not. They find friends they may have struggled to find. They are amazing <3
Glad you liked it, and thanks for commenting lovely <3

Oh my wow. I LOVE this quote. Could it be any more PURE PERFECTION? *sigh* I *SO* prefer books.
Also: ‘Faye is amazing. Faye is powerful. Faye is brilliant.’
♥ you! xx

Oh wow! I got goosebumps with that quote because it’s so true. And it’s what makes books so fantastic!
And its funny when you think about it. There are things that people can get away with in books that they wouldn’t be able to get away with in real life. This whole love triangle business? Probably wouldn’t fly in real life, you know? :b
Great post!

Oh my gosh, Kristin. Agreed to the highest level! IRL, when there’s something like that, I’m usually the third party, looking on and all, “Seriously, guys?” since I don’t get the motivation and stuff like that, haha! It’s also one of the reasons why, in Personality Psychology, I wanted to analyze characters rather than myself or others I know. Some people just aren’t open to really sharing!
Daydreaming_Star
I agree with Kathe, it is so totally true! You would just hurt too many people, it would be considered cheating… horrible human being words will be used. But in novels, it’s like the “norm”.
Thanks for commenting Kristin! :)

Faye, that is absolutely perfect. It’s the simplest way of talking about what makes books and real life different: the why. It’s one of the reasons I love books as much as I do. Thank you for sharing!

I’m in so much agreement with you, it’s unbelievable!
Glad you enjoyed it.

Great quote! I tried to adhere to “real life’ with my first novel – there was no explanation for why things happened, they just did and some of my critique partners were very angry. “You can’t do that!” they said. “You have to have a reason (in the book)!” LOL! Readers, apparently, DO want reasons, want the world to make sense, and want to understand why things happen. That’s what seperates book from real life I guess :-)

It’s an interesting lesson to learn when writing a book. But it is true that something that is too realistic is unsettling to readers, almost like it feels too close to home. We read to escape, you know? :)

Faye, you should be a professional Smart Person. Because you are SMART and DEEP and you INSPIRE me <3
Seriously, I love that quote, but I think I love your words even more. And like you say, it is so sad when people give you that LOOK when you say you read because you enjoy it and no, you were not forced to go open that book. There is so much to learn and explore with just the turn of a page. Books are our teachers and our friends and our escape and excuse me, I feel the need to go hug my bookshelf.
I LOVE THIS POST.
Daydreaming_Star
Oh man, you have no idea how much I love you and how much this just made my morning. You. Are. So. Amazing. <3
I completely agree with you and may have to hug my own bookshelf… and my kindle… mmmm. I love it. They’re the ones that keep us alive. Yes yes.
I LOVE YOUR COMMENT.
