Best of 2012 – #ArmchairBEA
5 June, 2012
Hey Guys!
So the topic for today is Best of 2012, which is our chance to gush over the titles that we have read in 2012 or are waiting anxiously for release within 2012. I have decided to do both of these because there have been some great releases, and some great upcoming releases too!
———–
2012 so far
In a summary recap, according to my GR I have read 48 books so far this year. This has been a combination of books released in 2012 and books not released this year. It is fair to say that this has dramatically increased from the probably 10 books I read throughout 2011. This is how great having a blog has been for me!
So, without further ado, these are the books I have read that were published this year that were amazing. If I’ve reviewed them, their reviews are linked – feel free to visit but no pressure!
- Emerald City by Alicia K. Leppert (review)
This book, for me, was extremely powerful. It truly captures depression and being able to pull yourself from the confines of its grip. It’s a truly emotional tale that just gets the reader invested. It also was the book that I needed to read at the moment. An amazing book I would recommend to just about anyone.
- Touch of Power by Maria V. Snyder (guest review)
I read this book fairly quickly and it truly captured me. I love witches and the tales that go along with them but I haven’t really read that many of them recently. This book re-awakened me to the genre of witches and the power it can have. I am looking forward to reading more. A must read.
- Cinder by Marissa Meyer (review to come)
I read this back in February and then got behind with my dissertation and still need to review it but everyone should note that when I do, this book will be receiving a glowing review. It was such a great book that I read extremely quickly! I loved it’s take on the fairytale and how it encapsulated it to make it, it’s own! A unique twist that people should read!
- The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa (review)
For me, The Immortal Rules was just exceptional. I still haven’t finished reading The Iron Fey series (just one book left) but I have found that these are still no where near as brilliant as this novel. It seems that Julie truly flourished when she wrote this book. I was blown away and it is one that I would happily read time and time again. A book you simply have to try.
- Black Heart Blue by Louisa Reid (review)
Honestly, this book just took my heart and wouldn’t let go. It was an emotionally devastating and powerfully rich tale that tugs at your heart and makes you yearn for the human race to just be better. I was drawn to the powers of this book and it is one that I have had no problem recommending to others and even bought two of my favourite bloggers the book as a surprise because I needed to spread it’s uniqueness. I cannot describe my love for this book.
- The Summer My Life Began by Shannon Greenland (review)
I was truly inspired by this story. It made me feel alive and happy and gave me a true sense of well-being. I loved the characters in it. It was light, fun tale that really celebrated the unique and creative side of life. It is one that I would easily be able to read again and again. A definite read to cheer you up!
- Insurgent by Veronica Roth (Review to come)
It would have been impossible to complete this list without mentioning this amazing novel. I read Divergent in January and waited on tender hooks for this one to arrive. When it did I was so glad for it and when I finally got around to reading it. I was blown away – more so than I thought I was going to be. Roth simply has a way with words that I am completely envious about! A brilliant second novel to the trilogy!

Most Anticipated Reads of 2012
So, in reality, there are so many books that I am waiting for this year (and next) but since I am trying to go back into participating in WoW weekly again, most of my most-anticipated reads will be featured there. For this post then, I am listing my top three anticipated reads. It took me a while to hone in on my choices, but I think it got it sorted now. xD
- Thrones of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
Everyone is gushing about this book and I keep spying it on my bookshelf to review and my fingers are itching to read it. It sounds so great and it has such a great following so far that I just need this book in my life. I am so glad that I will be reading it extremely soon!
- Arise by Tara Hudson
So, I have been gushing to read this book ever since I finished Hereafter last year. I keep seeing it around, especially as we get nearer to its release date, and I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy. I need to know how the story continues – I really, really do!
- Blood Debt by Nancy Straight
So, the synopsis of this book sounds absolutely amazing. I think it is a story I will truly adore but not just because of the synopsis but also because I love her other trilogy, the Destiny series. It is so great and Nancy as an author is absolutely amazing and I cannot wait to read more of her work!

So there we have it.
but tell me,
what are your favourite reads of 2012?
what are you most anticipated for in 2012?

Yay! I’m glad to hear that you loved it too!! :D And you should definitely get to reading them both! You know, when you get time and all.
I have been told I really need to read that one and am actually awaiting to be able to go and pick it up from the library xD

Faye (Daydreaming_Star)
It is! It is! A great coming-of-age type story that is full of fun and laughter but is also filled with deep, real-world problems. Yeap, definitely one to get your hands on if you can!
Thanks so much and thanks for commenting <3

Rachel @ Unforgettable Books
Hi Faye! I love Cinder and The Immortal Rules too! i agree that TIR is a much deeper and even better than the Iron fey series (still love that series and Ash!)
I can’t wait to read Throne of Glass too!
Faye (Daydreaming_Star)
Oh yes, I definitely love the series like woah. Julie Kagawa definitely knows how to write! Hehe.
But, just as I’m noticing the series is getting better, book by book, TIR just blew it out of the water completely for me.
So looking forward to The Iron Prince!! Aren’t you? :D

Cinder was at the top of my list! I just love the retold fairy-tales! Immortal Rules was very good too, I think it’s great that so many authors are thinking up such innovative twists on these stories and tropes we all know so well.
Here’s my list!
Faye (Daydreaming_Star)
Yes! I completely agree! It’s why I’m looking forward to Thrones of Glass too! And another author I know is starting an adaptation of Beauty and the Beast – I am EXTREMELY excited about this one!
And yeah, it just shows how much creativity there really is in the world!

Faye (Daydreaming_Star)
Yeee! I hope you like it and that the buzz doesn’t destroy it too much! And yes, it was such a great twist on the known fairytale! Really great book.
I have yet to read InsideOut, it’s one I hope to read in the next coming months!
