If love can survive death, are soul-mates eternal?
Tavia begins to suspect that secrets are being kept from her, and that her kindly aunt and uncle know more than they are letting on. Was the plane crash really an accident? Or is Tavia part of something bigger than she ever imagined?
With only her instincts and long-time crush, Benson, to rely on, Tavia must decide where her destiny lies, and who with.
#1 New York Times bestselling author Aprilynne Pike has created a heart-stopping romance built on a love triangle like you’ve never seen before and filled with epic stakes and a centuries-long conspiracy. Give it to fans of Nightshade and Fallen.
When Things
When I first heard about Earthbound, I was immediately drawn to the cover. I don’t know what it is about it but I was instantly intrigued, and while one mustn’t judge a book by its cover, I couldn’t help but want to know more about the book based on its design. Upon reading the summary I was even more intrigued by the story and decided that I really had to read the book. The only thing that made me slightly wary was the fact that there would be a love triangle but fortunately this was the kind of triangle that I love, the one with a complete reason behind it. It was a romantic love triangle that well and truly worked, and you’ll understand why if you continue reading my review.
Start Changing
There is so much mystery in this story that it is very important that it had a great plot. There needed to be a reward for the amount of confusion that the reader was ultimately put through and I feel that Aprilynne Pike has done an absolutely brilliant job at this. The plot was well-thought out, had twists that I wouldn’t have expected – and a few that I did – and just showed that she really knows how to write a well-thought out novel. I was incredibly impressed with the story and found it really difficult to put the book down. Just when you thought that things would be slowing down, something else would happen and you’d be pulled straight back into the throng of it all again and I absolutely adored that about this book. It was a plot that kept you on the edge of your seat.
Who Do
It isn’t often that I loved the main protagonist from the very first moment but this is what happened in Earthbound. Tavia is a character who has been dealt with the biggest blow anyone can go through. Losing her parents in a plane crash and being uprooted to live with her aunt and uncle. She was injured herself as well, and all of these things have helped to shape who she is. Tavia is a strong character, willing to continue moving with her life. She is protective and loyal, loving and caring but also suspicious – as one would be in her situation. I found her to be a great character that I could easily like. She has so much happen to her throughout the novel and I just found all of her reactions to be believable in the circumstances. It shows that Aprilynne is good at writing realistic characters.
You Go To
And on the sidelines we have the wonderful character of Benson who is loyal and protective. He’s kind and generous and you can really see what Tavia sees him in. He’s a strong character that I found myself liking. I did feel like there was something a bit off and untrusting about his character but overall I did like him and found him to be a great guy for Tavia. Then there is Quinn who is incredibly mysterious. In all honesty, I never would have understood Tavia’s thoughts and feelings about him if it wasn’t for the amazing narration. I love the way that Aprilynne has really managed to create a realistic triangle. Quinn is sensitive, caring, but just doesn’t seem to listen.
To Get
It is clear that Aprilynne is a talented writer. This is a book that is full of imagination and has a POV narrative that really lets you see the main character and experience things as though you were really there. It was a really great style of writing that I just fell into. The world-building in this book is also really well done. It’s not all thrown at you at once but given to you in little snippets of information to make it easier to digest. I found myself really loving the world that Aprilynne has created and am definitely intrigued enough to want to continue on the series.
The Answers
After reading a lot of mediocre books, Earthbound was a book that I was immediately drawn to from the very first page. It was mysterious, intriguing, entertaining, and full of action and suspense and I absolutely loved that about it. It gave you time to get to know the characters, understand the world, and pulled your heart and mind in different places at once. I felt so many things when reading this book and I just truly fell in love with it. It was a stunning book that I would highly recommend, especially if you like mystical mysterious books that give you information in little stages and just continue to keep turning the page. I will definitely be picking up the second book once it becomes available.
