My Thoughts
It’s not going to come as a surprise to you but I have read a lot of books in my life. Every now and again I read a book and I have no idea what will happen by the end but it is not often. This was one of those books. Even at 75% of the way through the book, I had no clue where the story was taking me. While for some this might be a little off putting, for me, this made the book that much more entertaining. It had me turning the pages quicker and soaking up the words, trying to discover what was going to happen. To say that I was shocked would be an understatement. This book had a rather intense reveal at the end of it that I did not see coming. This is exactly what I love about books like this.
This is the kind of story that is a slow read. Which isn’t what I was expecting as it definitely has a thriller feel to the cover of synopsis and I’ve read a few fast-paced thrillers lately but it was actually a nice surprise. It allowed the reader a chance to truly get to know the characters, to feel for them and to understand them. As the story progressed, I found myself wanting to know what the secret was. I had to know what everyone was hiding but I honestly did not see it coming and I truly loved that.
One of the most interesting things about the book was the characters. Normally I connect with at least one of the characters but in this book, I really struggled to do that. But this just made the book that bit more interesting. It seemed to me that their was no right or wrong answer. All the characters were flawed and had issues. Thus getting to the bottom of everything was even more intriguing. What made these people this way or act this way? I absolutely love how the characters developed by the end as well. I think it was wonderful how Irini became a stronger person by the end of it and I was very pleased about her relationship with Matt as well.
Overall this is a very intense, slow burning read that was fascinating and unique. I have never read a book quite like this and I am so glad that I did. It was addictive and intriguing enough that I really struggled to put the book down until I had all the answers. It may not have been like the other thriller books that I have read recently but it was still an incredible read with a very impressive story at the heart of it all. It is one that will shock you when you get to the end and make you feel a lot of different thoughts about life too. If you’re looking for a new book to read, you should definitely give this book a try.
