Summary: Trouble is haunting Cassidy Blake . . . even more than usual.
She (plus her ghost best friend, Jacob, of course) are in Paris, where Cass’s parents are filming their TV show about the world’s most haunted cities. Sure, it’s fun eating croissants and seeing the Eiffel Tower, but there’s true ghostly danger lurking beneath Paris, in the creepy underground Catacombs.
When Cass accidentally awakens a frighteningly strong spirit, she must rely on her still-growing skills as a ghosthunter — and turn to friends both old and new to help her unravel a mystery. But time is running out, and the spirit is only growing stronger.
And if Cass fails, the force she’s unleashed could haunt the city forever.
My Thoughts
After reading and absolutely loving City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab (read my review here), I have been dying to get my hands on the sequel; Tunnel of Bones. I am very pleased to report that the wait was absolutely worth it and that, in fact, I actually loved the second book more than the first!
Tunnel of Bones continues where City of Ghosts ended, with Cass on her way to Paris. What should be a simple trip, soon becomes a disaster for Cass as she ends up awakening a very frightening ghost who is hell bent on causing havoc. The story follows Cass as she not only tries to help the ghost, save her family and friends, but also to try and work out if she should be truly worried about her best friend, Jacob.
The story flows from the page as the adventure unfolds rapidly. I was swept away and simply couldn’t put the book down. I loved finding out more about the ghost and discovering what happened to make him become a ghost. It was such a fascinating – and horrifying – story. I would very much be interested to know if it was of Victoria’s own imagination or something that did actually happen.
Furthermore, I cannot fault the atmosphere in the book. Victoria Schwab has done a brilliant job of creating an eerie atmosphere in this book. It tugs you along – just as the veil tugs Cass in. It is tense and gripping in all the right places, while also filling you with a sense of unease and dread throughout as well. Exactly what you want in a ghostly book such as this.
So I would definitely recommend this book – and this series. Once again, Victoria Schwab, has written a fantastic book that is very entertaining and one that I would definitely be able to re-read. I am, once again, eagerly awaiting the release of the next book in this series as I cannot wait to hear more of the adventures that Cass, Lara and Jacob get up to!
