Author Interview: Janet Gogerty

Today I am pleased to welcome Janet Gogerty on to the blog with a quick interview! She’s come up with some intriguing answers!

Q&A

What is your favourite thing about writing books?
Letting my imagination roam, developing my characters and seeing where the story takes me.

Who is your favourite character in your book and why?
The Stranger who walked into my first novel, Brief Encounters of The Third Kind, uninvited and ended up telling his own story in the second of the trilogy, Three Ages of Man. There would have been no trilogy without him.

What is your favourite drink to consume while writing?
Tea and coffee alternating.

Do you have any bad habits while you’re writing?
Not stopping to get on with cooking dinner.

How do you research your books?
I make it all up! – Not quite true. I like to use places I know, but often go on line to check maps and facts for the year I’m writing about. I get lots of ideas from reading articles and listening to radio programmes.

Are you a plotter or a pantser?
Definitely a panster. I do have the big ideas before I start, but I think events and characters lead to plot developments I could not have conjured out of thin air.

If you could live in any fictional world, which would you choose and why?
My sister thought the organised life on ‘The Ark’ I created for Three Ages of Man would have suited her and I’m inclined to agree. I would love to try it out to check if we are seeing it through rose tinted glasses.

If you could befriend any fictional character, who would you choose and why?
The Stranger; I would need a good friend to help me adjust to my new life on The Ark and he is also a very interesting person.

About the Author

I have been writing frantically for over ten years; taking it seriously when I joined a weekly writing group. One of my short stories, Emma, turned into the novel Brief Encounters of the Third Kind. Writing propelled me into the ether and the world of Indie Authors; self publishing is a steep learning curve for most of us.
I have published a trilogy, one other novel and four story collections on Amazon Kindle, most are now available as paperbacks. My website long ago took on a life of its own and ties in with my love of photography. I also write blogs and book reviews.
