My Thoughts

As soon as I heard about this book, I knew it was one that I wanted to read. It sounded right up my street and I wasn’t wrong. However, I also feel it is fair to admit that it did take me a little while to fully get into this story. I found myself very much disliking both of the main characters which made it a bit hard to get stuck into the story. However, at some point everything changed and I soon found myself flipping through the pages at speed.

Note: While it is dealt with sensitively, the topics of this book are strong and may be a trigger to some people. It looks at stalking, male dominance, emotional manipulation and emotional abuse. If you struggle to read these topics, you might not be ready for this book.

That being said, Follow Me, Like Me does deal with these topics very well. It looks very strongly at stranger danger in this new internet fuelled world as well as loneliness in the midst of it all. The two different characters were realistic and I know that they may just be very helpful to other teenagers of today. It is for this reason that I definitely recommend reading this book. I also love that it showed one female standing up for another and how everyone assumed it was a guy – a nice little bit of gender role power play which was absolutely lovely to see.

So if you’re looking for an emotional book which will have you turning the pages quickly and leaving you feeling hopeful and happy despite the world and it’s dangers – then you should absolutely give this book a read.
