When Everything

Sometimes, when you finish a book, it can feel as though you have lost a friend. That is definitely how I felt when I finished The Eternity Cure. This was a book that I had been looking forward to from the very moment that I finished The Immortal Rules, and I am pleased to report that it did not disappoint. Once more Julie Kagawa has written a book that grabs hold of you and refuses to let go. It is powerful, intense, and full of so much emotion that you won’t know what to do with yourself. The only issue I had with this book was that it ended in such a way that has me itching to get my hands on the next one.

Is Crumbling

We start this book just after the first one ended, with Allie on the search for Kanin. Just as expected, I was instantly hooked on this book from the very beginning. Once I got back inside Allie’s head, once I had rediscovered my love for Julie’s writing, I found it incredibly difficult to put this book down. Just as it always is, Julie has a way of writing that where it should be slow, she still manages to pick up the pace with new dangers and twist arriving at every different corner. However, I did feel at the end of the book that the beginning was a lot slower and I can see it being difficult for some people to get back into the series, but I had no issues at all. I enjoyed following Allie’s journey in this book, and all of the different emotional moments that she had to go through as the book continued. By the time I got to the last few pages, I really did not want this book to end. I wanted to continue reading about Allie’s life and everything facing her. While the actual ending was a shock, it also wasn’t. But it was definitely a cliff-hanger that is going to make the wait for the next book hard – but it was ultimately worth it.

Around You

Once again, Julie has shown that while she excels at description, she also has a knack for powerful characters that can knock you sideways. Allison was a brilliant heroine who was strong, stubborn, and tough, but she was also compassionate, caring and loving, even if she tried incredibly hard not to be. These parts of her personality keep her rooted in her humanity and you can really see her battling with how to just be the vampire she was bitten to become. I found her strength admirable, and she really carried the story through. This is one heroine who is not worried about breaking her nails or getting her hair dirty and I really loved that about her. She’s a truly complex character who has some sticky situations and complications to get herself through but she always manages to deal with what is thrown at her. I also adored Kanin. I love how you can almost see the gears shifting in his brain as he thinks about things, you can tell that he is old but still in his prime and is incredibly smart and powerful. I really don’t know what it is about him that I like so much but just know that he is an amazing character that will help bring a smile to your face as you read this.

You Have To

Jackall is a character I’m still not sure about. I found him irritating at the beginning, just as Allison did, but then I saw behind his facade and realised that there was more to him then met the eye. But it’s still hard to really see, so I’m unsure if he’s a character I really enjoy being around, but can understand the difficult situation Allison is in regarding him. On the other hand, once more Zeke managed to sweep me off my feet. He was an adorable character that I truly enjoyed reading and just wished I could have seen more of. He is strong, protective, vulnerable and just incredibly lovable. He knows that he has had some tricky situations and decisions to go through but he continues to be himself as he makes them and I just really admire that. I think he is just an incredible character and the perfect person to have in this series.

Stand Up

With every book that she writes, I find myself falling more and more in love with Julie Kagawa and her amazing, inspiring, and incredible talent. She has a way of really pulling the reader into the story and keeping them there until the very end. With unforseen twists and turns, writing that gets to the depth of things, and some truly unique character voices, it is difficult not to admire every word on the page. Julie has a way of invoking so many emotions in the reader throughout the journey of the book as well, one moment you’ll be feeling hope, before feeling sad and irritated to then feeling joyful and hopeful once more. She manages to make you feel so much for the characters that it would be impossible not to love her writing style. Once more, I am sitting on tender hooks as I await another book from Julie.

And Fight

All in all, this is a story that draws you in and forces you to continue reading while you leave your real life behind. It is intense, powerful, and a book that reminds you of why you continue to read in the first place. It is hard not to gush a lot when it comes to this book, but I truly think that it deserves every little bit of gushing as it is an incredible read that will stick with you for a while afterwards. It is emotional and has an ending that will have you rocking on your bed as you mutter the words “more” under your breath. When all is said and done, I could not recommend this book any higher but I definitely think that it is important to read The Immortal Rules first as it helps to set this book up. So, if you haven’t yet started this series, I really think you should be rectifying that! This book is an utterly compelling and captivating second book in the series and I am incredibly glad that I took the time to read it and hope you will to.
