Hi Guys!
Today I have a brilliant guest post from the lovely Sofia to share with you all. She’s here today to talk about five star reads.

Earlier today, I was thinking about all the books I have given 5 stars. Most of them have absolutely nothing in common and they could not be any more different from one another. So why do they all get the same rating in my opinion? Why do I love them equally?

Different people want different things from books at different times. I’m most definitely a mood reader so sometimes I want to read a fantasy novel and sometimes I want to read a fluffy romance novel(this happens more often than I care to admit). Therefore, this means I enjoy various different types of books along with most readers. I am yet to meet someone who only reads one specific genre because I think in a way we all like to read a wide range.

Some of the books I’ve given 5 stars.

So why do I give some books 5 stars? My main reason is always enjoyment. If I don’t enjoy reading a book, why would I give it 5 stars? Even if the writing is fantastic, the plot is amazing and the characters are diverse, if I didn’t enjoy reading the book I can’t give it 5 stars. This happened most recently with The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson. Everything about this book was great yet for some reason, I didn’t enjoy reading it. I still don’t know why but because I didn’t, I couldn’t give it 5 stars.

Writing also plays a big role in my overall rating. If something about the writing is off, it doesn’t deserve a 5 star rating from me. Whether it’s because of how it flows or because of the words picked, I won’t give it 5 stars if it’s slacking in the writing department. I can think of a few books where I personally think the writing wasn’t good enough for the plot but the most recent one is probably Still Falling by Sheena Wilkinson. This was a good book and the plot was amazing but it didn’t flow correctly for me so I couldn’t give it 5 stars.

Now obviously characters also play an important role too. If the characters are incredibly annoying, I can’t give it 5 stars. If I feel like punching them constantly or throwing my book across the room, then it wasn’t a perfect book for me(unless I was meant to feel that way because they are meant to be villains).
How fast I read the book also always plays an important role in it too because if I devour a book quickly, it generally means I love it. I can devour many different books quickly. For example, I read all of Stephanie Perkins’ novels in a day and I also could not put down The Sin Eater’s Daughter and those two are completely different from one another.

So those are some of the reasons that I need to consider before giving a book 5 out of 5 stars. What are some of your reasons? Are there some books that you wanted to give 5 stars but something about it stopped you?

What a fantastic post!
