Today I have for you all a review of Iron Man 3

When You’re

So the very first thing that I must make very clear in this review is that I love the new Avengers collection. I have not read any of the comic books (graphic novels) myself, but I have quite quickly found myself enamoured with all of the Avengers films ever since I watched The Incredible Hulk (2008). But, of all the Avengers films, it has always been Iron Man that has been my ultimate favourite. The entire personality of the character is something that I really enjoy and I actually think that the personal development of characters is much richer in the Iron Man films than in any of the others. Thus, as you can probably tell, I was incredibly excited for Iron Man 3.

Under Attack

While I loved the overall feel of this film, I did have a major problem with the plot. At first I was incredibly confused because I was expecting the film to start at the end of Iron Man 2 and not Avengers Assemble so it took me a while to get my head around why certain things were happening – and of course after I realised what was going on I felt like an idiot! – and so it took me a small while to really get into the story. Secondly, I got quite confused by the convaluted plot at times. I couldn’t understand how things worked, or why they were going a certain way and it took me a while to sort of catch-up. Though, I still don’t understand how the bad guy died. (Is that just me?) Due to this, it made me enjoy this film less than I had hoped BUT there were also so many amazing scenes and moments throughout the film that I could look passed the plot to just enjoy the film. But really, I think I probably just need to go watch it again – which is hardly a bad thing!

You Have To

Once more, Iron Man 3 has shown just how much personal character development it can shove into a single two hour film. We start off with Tony Stark struggling to assimilate into a normal (well, normal for him) routine of life because of his recent experiences in Avengers Assemble (not saying what to avoid spoilers of those who haven’t seen that film yet!). He’s emotionally weakened at the start because of it, even if his suits are now more physically powerful. As the film progresses, Tony manages to find himself, stepping passed his weakness and gradually regaining strength and while he still doesn’t become the most powerful man around, it just shows how realistic his character feels and gives you just a little hope for him.

Find Your

Another character who had a transition during the film was Pepper. As a side character you don’t see much of her but at the beginning of the film you can see that she’s weak and struggling with Tony. She wants to help him but isn’t sure how but all I can remember thinking is that she doesn’t have a lot of backbone. It seemed she was just letting things happen. By the end of the film, this is certainly not the case. While there wasn’t as much development of her character as there was of Tony’s, it was still nice to see that she did progress as the film went on as well.

Inner Strength

One of the things that makes me enjoy the Avengers’ movies so much is the mix between seriousness and cheesiness. It seems the directors and writers understand that while the plot can get deep, it’s still important to bring with it some humour and Iron Man 3 is no different. There were moments that I found myself giggling away and moments when I was on the edge of my seat feeling tense and anxious, which made the overall experience much more enjoyable overall. The CGI and over-the-top technology and moments with the film were all exactly what you’d expect in an Iron Man movie and were therefore instantly appreciated. It would be odd to watch an Iron Man film without that many explosions! The cast were, once again, really well acted and kept me interested and rooting for all the different characters but the one that outshone all the rest in my mind was Ty Simpkins. He was a brilliant addition to the cast and I’m really hoping that they bring him back for more!

To Win

As I expected, Iron Man 3 was a highly entertaining and enjoyable film that I’m glad I went to go and see. As usual I did not think that the 3D was necessary but it was something that I’m just going to have to get used to. It did make me a little confused and the plot just seemed to strain in some places but this didn’t make me hate the film, which is always good. I appreciated the film for what it was and would definitely make sure to get it on DVD when it comes out so that I can watch it again and again. If you like the Iron Man movies then I’m sure that you’ll also enjoy this one. But I do advice you to make sure you’ve seen Avengers Assemble before, or at least are aware of what happens or you may just end up as confused as I was! If you haven’t watched any of these films, what are you waiting for? Go watch them, they’re all brilliant!
