The Influence of the Piano by Liana Ainge

Liana was born and raised in Russia in the former Soviet Union where she studied music and psychology. She moved to the UK in 1999 and currently lives and works in Oxfordshire. Her passion is research into how learning to play the piano can improve the function of the brain and enhance the memory. As a direct result of her researches she has developed her own technique to teach students to play the piano concentrating on using the right side of the brain which is associated with people who tend to be creative and artistic. She has also developed a system of "musical maths" to improve sight-reading and memory. Her students cover a wide spectrum from children to retirees ranging from beginners to professionals. When not teaching she enjoys spending as much time as possible with her young son, including, paradoxically, teaching him to play the piano!
