Top Ten Tuesday; Witches & Wizards
Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created by The Broke and the Bookish. Each week a new topic is given and this weeks topic is Witches & Wizards
So this week’s top ten tuesday was to choose our own topic and list our top books that x readers would like. So I have chosen books/films that people who love witches&wizards would enjoy.
Books
Harry Potter Series by J. K. Rowling; My favourite witch/wizard story ever. It is wonderful, imaginative, creative, and just such fun. If you haven’t read these books yet, you should definitely do that. Wouldn’t want to miss out on the magic, would you?
Touch of Power by Maria V. Snyder; This book was one that I read a few years ago but has stuck with me since. It’s actually about a healer but she’s a magical healer. It’s a very in-depth story that hooks you in and keeps you going. It is the book that made me fall in love with Maria V. Snyder.
Born Wicked by Jessica Spotswood; In this fascinating and brilliant book, being a witch is very bad. They’re seen as the devils in the village where it is set. This makes for a very powerful story that is full of wonderful writing and description. A must-read for witch fans!
Witch Child by Celia Rees; This is a book I read as a young girl that has just stayed with me ever since. It is powerful, amazing, and beautiful. A perfect historical look at witches.
Matilda by Roald Dahl; I read this as a child and re-read it two years ago. It is a classic children’s book that will forever stay in my heart. It’s good-natured, fun, but also quite deep and tackles the topic of bullying, even from adults, very interesting. Plus, Matilda is the best witch.
Films
The Covenant; This may be my favourite wizard film ever. I know, what a statement! But this film is dark, emotional, fun and adventurous and I just love it so much. Especially when it starts with “Harry Potter can kiss my ass.” – A must see film for wizard lovers!
Sleepy Hollow; This is an interesting one. It’s more ghostly and creepy then about witches and wizards but I still think it was a fantastic film and it counts because it has a witch in it! And you should definitely watch it if you haven’t already.
Stardust; I love this film so much. It’s such a beautiful film. Unique in many ways and just a truly lovely adventure story. Plus it has a bit of a dark plot to it which is always interesting to see in films. If you haven’t seen this one, do so!
Mary Poppins; A perfect classic film! And what a fantastic witch Mary Poppins is! I loved this film growing up and having re-watched recently, it just rekindled my love for it. If you haven’t yet seen this film, you definitely need to do something about that!
The Wizard of Oz; There have been MANY adaptations of this book over the years but I think my favourite will always be the classic original. This film is so lovely and fun. I just love the entire story. And lets face it, I do love all the other adaptations too.

Love this selection of books and films – reminded me of some old favourites as well as some new ones! Witch Child is definitely one that stays with you a long time after reading, such a fantastic book. Have you read any Tamora Pierce books? They were my first introduction to magic and fantasy worlds and are favourite reads to this day.
Faye
I haven’t but she is on my list to read so maybe I’ll bump her a bit higher! Thanks for the suggestion :)
