Falling in love is never simple. Especially when you’re dead.
When Rosie Potter wakes up one morning with what she assumes is the world’s worst hangover, the last thing she expects is to discover that she’s actually dead. With a frustrating case of amnesia, suspicious circumstances surrounding her untimely demise, and stuck wearing her ugliest flannel PJs, Rosie must figure out not only what happened last night, but why on earth she’s still here.
Slowly the mystery unravels, but there are many other secrets buried in the quiet Irish village of Ballycarragh, and nobody is as innocent as they first appear. Aided by the unlikeliest of allies in her investigation, Rosie discovers that life after death isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, particularly when you might just be falling in love . . .
In this hilarious, life-affirming and romantic journey through Rosie Potter’s afterlife, she shares the ghostly tale of how she lived, she died, and she loved (in that order).
If You Die
If you know me at all, you will know that I have a little soft spot for ghost stories and I’ve been in a big chick lit mood recently so when I stumbled across this book, I simply could not resist picking it up. I quickly fell into this story, it was light, easy to read and the main character had a very fun and loud personality that I just loved completely. I found myself often laughing out loud during moments at the book and by the end of it, I ended up crying myself to sleep over it. It was a great book that I very much enjoyed, fully connected with and am incredibly glad that I decided to read.
Very Suddenly
There’s often a predictability that comes with chick lit novels because the girl hates the guy and then eventually falls in love with the guy and everything is happily ever after. But what I liked about this book is that it put everything on its head. The plot of this book was clever, interesting and definitely kept me interested. It was full of fun but also full of seriousness, it was moving and heart-warming all at the same time as well. If the plot had fallen flat, I definitely don’t think I would have enjoyed this book so much but Kate Winter has really managed to write a very captivating story.
How Do You
One of the best things, by far, was Rosie Potter. Her character was so lively – in the most ironic sense seeing as she was dead. She had this fun flair about her that made me laugh and I just loved her narration and commentary throughout the entire novel. I really enjoyed getting to know more about her and her life and by the end of it, I felt so much for her and I just felt so sad about what happened to her. Alongside Rosie, I also fell very much head over hells for Charles. He was such a gentleman. He was protective, loyal, strong, caring and just so loving. I loved how he acted throughout the novel and I loved just everything about his character so much. He was just so perfect.
Say Goodbye
Overall, this was book that I very much enjoyed. It made me feel lots of emotions, made me think and made me really look at my life too. It was an easy read but one that really sticks with you. I loved that this book was also set in Ireland and such a small town too. I thought it was all wonderfully done and brilliantly written and I will definitely be keeping my eye on Kate Winter for her next book. If you’re looking for an emotional, lovely and fun read then I would highly recommend The Happy Ever Afterlife of Rosie Potter. It is such a lovely and enjoyable read and I am certain that you won’t regret it!
