Thursday’s Special Spotlight; Insurgent by Veronica Roth
Thursday’s Special Spotlight is a new feature here at A Daydreamer’s Thoughts. It is inspired by her library’s “Book of the Week” and Stepping out of the Page’s From the Review Pile. It also stems from how far behind I am on writing reviews and how guilty I often feel about it!
The idea of this feature is to spotlight books that I read e-ons ago that I absolutely loved and I feel deserve the spotlight on this blog! They will be accompanied with reasons as to why I loved them and why I think you should read them.
This weeks pick is Insurgent by Veronica Roth
Insurgent, for me, was actually not as good as Divergent. I cannot pinpoint exactly what it was about this book that didn’t reach the right standard for me but I have a feeling it was because it wasn’t quite as fresh as it had been before. But don’t get this all wrong because I LOVED Insurgent, more than loved really, and it has even made its way into being one of my favourite trilogies of all time, but for now, the first book was just that little bit better. Insurgent had a very interesting story, where Tris shows some of the flaws to her character, Four struggles to deal with things, and everything else just gets incredibly real and serious, and it all flowed really well. It was full of tension, full of action, and had you literally gripping the corners of the book as you read trying to cram all that information into your brain as fast as possible. Due to all of that, it is impossible not to enjoy this excellent addition to the trilogy. When it all ended, I literally screamed in frustration as I wanted MORE and knew I had to wait over a year for the final conclusion.
Why do I think you should read Insurgent?
If you have read and liked Divergent, I can only recommend that you carry on the trilogy! I know that some people have prefered Insurgent and it is likely that you may as well, but it is definitely worth reading. It is full of action, heavy emotions, frightful circumstances, and an overwhelming source of evil, plus there’s lots of mystery and suspence added in there as well. With all of that, how could you possibly say no to this amazing, entertaining, captivating read? If, on the other hand, you haven’t yet read Divergent, don’t start the trilogy with Insurgent! You will be completely lost and confused, but I would HIGHLY recommend you read Divergent anyway, so go off and do that and then read Insurgent afterwards because I guarentee you’ll want to know what else is in store for your favourite chatacters!

I have to agree with you on this one, Faye. I think Divergent was the better book of the two, though, Insurgent certainly was enjoyable. I guess my biggest problem was that when I read them I was still suffering from a Hunger Games hangover and all I could do was compare this series to that one. THG won out for me, so I don’t think I really appreciated Divergent/Insurgent as much as I could have/should have. These are definitely two books I’ll be re-reading before the release of the final installment.

Ahh, see, I prefer Divergent to THG! It is a great series but there are still things that didn’t sit right with me from it. But I still loved it and this one!
And I agree, re-reads are a MUST!

It’s almost a love hate thing when you find a book you really love, when it ends you just keep wanting more. This is a new one for me, so thanks for sharing.
Also thanks for popping over to our UK Bloggers Linkup, now following you xx

I loved Insurgent! I think the thing I loved most about it was how I felt like Tris and Four really go through all these things, and in the end, they’re forced to make important decisions/choices, etc. Plus, there’s so much more about the factions in here!

Yes! I agree completely with that! Their relationship really gets hit with some real-life, hard-hitting stuff that could damage it all completely and it wasn’t just OKAY the whole time :)
