Summary:
Sixteen-year-old Lex Bartleby is a teenage grim reaper with the bizarre ability to damn souls. That makes her pretty scary, even to fellow Grims. But after inadvertently transferring her ability to Zara, a murderous outlaw, Lex is a pariah in Croak, the little town she calls home.

To escape the townspeople’s wrath, she and her friends embark on a wild road trip to DeMyse. Though this sparkling desert oasis is full of luxuries and amusements, it feels like a prison to Lex. Her best chance at escape would be to stop Zara once and for all—but how can she do that from DeMyse, where the Grims seem mysteriously oblivious to Zara’s killing spree?

With The

The first book in this series, Croak, was a book that very much surprised me. While I had expected to like the book, I hadn’t realised that I would completely love it. The book was the perfect balance between action and humour, and it enraptured me. Thus, I had high hopes for the second book in the series, Scorch. When it comes to books in a series, I never read the synopsis – I already know I’m going to read it – so I had no idea what to expect with this book. And that worked out fine as this book completely blew me away. It was intense, emotional, fast-paced and a truly scorching read.

Help of

Now it’s hard to talk about what happened in this book without ruining the first book but what I will say is that the plot of this book book was really gripping. The action never slowed down and you continuously felt like you were on edge. Add to that a feeling of injustice and rage and you can almost imagine how the characters must have felt throughout the entire book. There were some big plot twists in this book too which I loved but it was the ending that really got me. It was just as explosive as the ending of Croak and I must know more.

Friends and Family

One of the reasons I fell in love with Croak was because of the characters and I am glad to say that they are all just as vibrant and fun in this book too. They all really have their own journey’s to go through in this books well, which helps them grow. It definitely made the reading of the book more enjoyable as you realise that every body will always grow as time goes on. And because I normally mention it, my favourite character of the book was Lex. I think she has so much going on and I loved how she dealt with it all. Showing that along with her strengths, she also had those inevitable weaknesses, further demonstrating the strength of her character.

We Will Survive

It is not often that you find a book that is the second book in a series and is as fantastic as the first book but I certainly feel that way about Scorch. Gina Damico has managed not to lose anything between the two books by writing a stunning and captivating plot, wonderful and loveable characters, and using her writing talent to mix the dark and the light perfectly. This book was a great read that I struggled to put down, would read again and has me itching to find out what happens next. I cannot recommend this series highly enough.
