Weekly Highlights

Weekly Highlights; Geek-Girl Edition

weekly highlights

Weekly Highlights is a new feature here at A Daydreamer’s Thoughts and will be a post highlighting things that happened on and off the blog. It is inspired by The Story Sirens In My Mailbox, Books, Biscuit and Tea’s Showcase Sunday, Kimba Caffeinated’s Sunday Post, and the British Letterbox Love.

In the feature I won’t mention everything I received, nor every post I wrote during the week but will simply feature a selection of things I wish to spotlight a second time around.

Author Event

Holly2Last Sunday I made my way to London to go to the Geek Girl party for Holly Smale‘s new book. I met up with Michelle, Gaby, and Daphne for lunch beforehand and then we braced the cold and made our way to the event. It was full of bloggers, some I had met before hand and some were new bloggers I hadn’t met yet. The event started with us all just getting some drinks and having a good old natter with each other while we waited for everyone to arrive.

cupcakes!

Then, with our goodie bags that we had been given on arrival – shown below – we headed to the tables where there was a nice arrangement of cakes. Then Holly started talking about her journey and lots of information about Geek Girl. It was a good talk that had a lot of us laughing here and there. Then we had a q&a session with Holly and it was great to get to know her and her books better! Next up was a break where we went and had a chat session with Holly ourselves. We talked a lot about bullying, writing, and blogging, and it was really great to do so.

Holly1When we were all seated again it was onto the quiz! This was more difficult then it seemed and I only managed to achieve four out of ten. But it was great fun, especially as Holly tried to pronounce the specific word for a phobia of long words (hint; it’s THE longest word in the English Language :p). There was a tie at the end so there was a final tie-breaker between four or five people until a winner was finally chosen and she won a prize!

Daphne&GabyEssentially that was the end of the event, but then we were told we could hang about a bit longer and so Michelle, Gaby, Daphne, and I took advantage of the table tennis (ping pong) table in the room and started to play. This was hilarious and one of the best moments of the day. Gaby and Daphne had been drinking wine so were a little intoxicated and well, we weren’t exactly pros at the game so the ball kept flying off in the direction of the other bloggers that were still around. In the end we decided that there was no clear winner to our not-taking score game of table tennis and started milling with people in the room instead.

Here we chatted with some awesome bloggers like Luna and Caroline. I’m certain there were others and I feel rude but their names are failing me – it was a week ago! We took some photos; one of which was with everyone who came and Holly as well. Then it was, unfortunately, time to leave. But it was definitely the highlight of my week!

Letterbox Love

This week I got a cool goodie bag from the Holly Smale event – along with a book which I got signed at the event, and a DVD rental from the library.

geek girl party bag

A treasure trove of goodies! I got two glowsticks, two dinosaur shape things, a geek girl badge, geek girl lip balm, a business card, geek girl glasses, an impossible puzzle box, some sticky notes, and a copy of Geek Girl.

social network

I took The Social Network out of my library this week and am looking forward to finally seeing what all the fuss is about for this film!

And there you have it, my Weekly Highlights!
