February Monthly Wrap Up

Monthly Highlights

This month has been crazy busy in the best kind of way! I went to five amazing bookish events, had some fun with social things, announced some exciting news about my freelancing, AND started up my running again. On top of all of that, I’m actually starting to feel more human again, in a way I haven’t in the longest time, so yay!

First up, I went to the launch of the The Sin-Eater’s Daughter by Mel Salisbury. I was so glad I got the chance to share this with her. I loved this book and it was just so nice to see Mel so happy about it all.

Then came an awesome HP Night spent at Waterstones Piccadilly. While the event wasn’t exactly what I had expected, it was really interesting and I definitely enjoyed hearing all about how Johnny Doddle created the covers!

Next up was the Electric Monkey Blogger Day, which is definitely one of my favourite days last month. It was so much fun, was great to see so many bloggers, lovely authors and to finally meet the Egmont team! I truly had a fantastic day.

Then I went to SRCF (Super Relaxed Fantasy Club) and got to hear both Jen Williams and Den Patrick talk about their books and I got to mingle with people and it was just a lovely night.

Lastly, but certainly not least, was the absolutely brilliant UKYA Extravaganza day! This event was so much fun. It was great to see so many wonderful authors in one room and to talk to so many of them in one afternoon! The event went really smoothly and was just a lot of fun.

I didn’t do so well on the reading this month, as I went through a bit of a reading slump, but I did end up reading six books in the end. (Which may be the least amount of books read in a month for two years, eeek!)

Favourite Book

I had a very hard time choosing my favourite this month because even though I only read a few books, I read some really good ones! But, eventually, I decided that this book was my favourite. I loved how this book pulled me into Twylla’s world so well. I found myself truly getting attached to her and her journey. I admired the queen and all her evilness as well, and just found it truly fascinating to watch how she behaved through the book. This book was a fantasy with a lot of world-building but it was also a book that was rich in characters and I also love that. It hooked me early on and kept my attention until the end.

Books Read

Three Stars

The Underwood See by Michael Lawrence; This was the third and final book in a series that I started as a child but never finished. I re-read them last year and finally completed the trilogy. It was a good, entertaining read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas; I so wanted to love this book and I especially hoped to give it more than three stars but I just couldn’t get into this book as quickly as I’d hoped and it didn’t evoke the feels I thought it would. Nonetheless it was an interesting and enjoyable read, and I will definitely continue on the series.

Four Stars

Obsession in Death by J. D. Robb; This was my first J. D. Robb book and I have to admit I was impressed. I’d heard some bad things about this author but actually I really enjoyed the story. The writing was stilted so as to create a fast-pased tense atmosphere and while it took a little while to get used to, I eventually fell in love with it. I quickly got absorbed in this book and really felt for all the characters involved.

The Sin-Eater’s Daughter by Mel Salisbury; I had high expectations for this book and was very glad when they all came true. This book is a wonderful fantasy book that keeps your heart tense as it rumbles through the plot. It’s full of a brilliant world, wonderful realistic characters and a plot twist that will throw you off balance. A fantastic read.

Ways To See A Ghost by Emily Diamond; I really enjoyed this book. It hooked me from the very start and got my curiosity really flowing. This book is imaginative, unique and just really grabbed my attention. I loved the characters and where the story went. Would highly recommend.

Salvage by Keren David; I’ve been meaning to read this book for ages so when I was faced with a chance to finally meet her, I decided that it had to be done. I’m so glad I finally read it because it was a story that sucked me in and kept me entertained. It was gritty and brilliantly written and I just loved it.
